Boothbay 6 pulling upgrade through the shop area
Title:  Boothbay 6 pulling upgrade through the shop area
Description:  The Stettin nameplate is#a remnant of the city where this little industrial switcher worked while in Europe. Stettin was the German name for the past and present-day city of Szczecin, Poland. This little Henschel was operating there during the WWII German occupation of Poland; hence the German name for the city on the nameplate. Szczecin is a major Baltic seaport located in northwest Poland near the border with Germany. The locomotive was purchased (via a classified ad in TRAINS magazine) and brought to Boothbay Railway Village in the 1960’s. Engineer aboard the train is John Orne, an affable and knowledgeable volunteer at Boothbay Railway Village.

Description:  This is a steep down-grade section hence the lack of visible exhaust - the engineer actually has the Johnson bar reversed to provide downhill braking via air compression; not unlike a Jake Brake on a truck.
