PRR 8663, AS-18AM, 1966
Waters. Here is an original telephoto view that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in mid-February of 1966. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8663, an unidentified unit, and #8674. All are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8663 was built in January of 1958, while #8674 was built in March of 1958. They're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train that's about to pass SLOPE Tower on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Photo taken from the steps of SLOPE Tower.
